This Is Who You Are at SIX - Cecilia's 6th Birthday Interview

From the time Marcela was small, I have enjoyed recording a yearly "interview" with my girls so that we can remember who they were at this fleeting moment of time. As time flies more quickly each year and we become more busy and involved in other activities and commitments, what this interview looks like has changed a bit. It used to entail trampsing around with them, camera in hand, and documenting their cute little faces as well as taking notes from our conversations. But I've learned to be flexible and this year's interview was done as we drove south for Cecilia's Birthday outing day at Thanksgiving Point. She sat in the back seat and jabbered while I sat in the front passenger seat and took short notes to remember her cuteness on my phone.

And now, 11 months later, I am finally writing it down somewhere. I always say I'm going to do better. But maybe I'll say I'll do my best. And sometimes my best doesn't come for awhile. The most important part is that I'm not letting it get lost forever.

So here goes - a peak at Cecilia when she was about to turn 6 years old. February, 2015.

Mom: So Cecilia, what can you do now that you are six?
Cecilia: Blow dry my own hair!

Mom: Hmmm, blow dry your own hair, huh? I haven't seen you do that. What about reading, are you going to be able to read books now that you're six?
Cecilia: I can already do that!

Mom: What's your favorite food?
Cecilia: It's still soup.

Mom: Which soup do you like best?
Cecilia: The one with the little noodles...and chicken!

Mom: What's your favorite restaurant?
Cecilia: I don't know.

Mom: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Cecilia: Yellowstone! Because there's lots of animals and hotels, lots of hotels and I LOVE HOTELS!

Mom: What are your favorite family activities?
Cecilia: "El noche de hogar...el postre!" (Family Home Evening...the treat!) I love ice cream with toppings.

Mom: What is your favorite book?
Cecilia: The Book of Mormon

Mom: What is your favorite movie?
Cecilia: Book of Mormon movies (the cartoons)

Mom: What is your favorite dessert?
Cecilia: Glazed icing donuts

Mom: What is your favorite subject at school?
Cecilia: Math, subtraction, and take away and those stuff.

Mom: Who are your friends and what do you like to do with them?
Cecilia: Ella Marie, Chloe, wait, not Chloe, Keelee and Cecilia...I call myself a friend. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Oh and Berkley. We just talk pero private y tenemos que hacer un leaf pile para hablar sentadas. [Translation: We just talk, but privately and we have to make a leaf pile to sit down in and talk.]

Mom: What is your favorite song?
Cecilia: Blank Space!...I don't have a lot...all of the Kid's Bop songs. Oh, and I'm so fancy...[and her singing trails off].

Mom: What is your favorite primary song?
Cecilia: The new one. [I Know That My Savior Loves Me]

These are just a few things to help us remember who you are now, dear Cecilia. But what you are always is our beautiful daughter and sister. You are kind-hearted. You are spunky. You love to make others laugh. And you are unique. You love creating art and you love helping others. We love you!
